Fun Fall Outings for the Whole Family

Posted on

The autumn season slowly welcomes us with the subtle change in the colors of the leaves on the trees. Then, almost without thought, we begin to smell fresh-baked apple pies, hear the crackling fire, and want to put on a sweater while getting cozy under a blanket. This time of year brings crisp contentment unlike any other season. It’s as though fall speaks to us, saying, “Come spend time with me,” which many families do.

Family recently spoke with Amy Schweizer, wife of USMC Master Sargent, Brandun Schweizer, and mom of Roma (9), Preston (6), and Deacon (4) about the many ways their family enjoys the fall season.

What are some fun fall activities you and your family like to do?

For our family, we love visiting our local pumpkin patch. Each person chooses a pumpkin and either carves it or paints it to put on the porch as a decoration. We also love attending fall festivals! There’s nothing that says fall more than a candy or caramel apple while walking around a fall festival. Plus, fall is also a great time for sports – playing them and attending them. For us, we love Tiny Troops Soccer. This is a great way to still be active on the chilly days! This helps keep our bodies active with fun, indoor family activities (check out this list! bit.ly/tinytroopsyoutube).

Why is it important to your family to go on fall outings?

Fall means comfort and coziness, which is perfect for following the fun adventures of summertime. Fall also allows us to reconnect with one another in ways different from the summertime. We can slow down some and enjoy coming together for family fall outings.

Are there activities that don’t require money that can be enjoyed as a family?

The great news for military families is that they can obtain free passes to the many National Park across the country. The parks have fantastic trails for short hikes or day hikes. They also offer community classes for individuals and families, like the Junior Ranger program. No matter what fall outing or activity our family chooses to engage in, we know we will make lasting memories.
