What are Your Favorite Ways to Celebrate the Super Bowl as a Family?

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events across America! Families and friends across the country gather to cheer on their team or hope their rival loses! Whether you're there for the food, the commercials, the people or the game, there's something for everyone! Family spoke with three military families to hear how they celebrate the Super Bowl!
“We don't necessarily watch the Super Bowl, but we love to go to a Super Bowl party at a friend's house with lots of food, talking, and just being with others. It's a relaxing way to have fun with friends. My hubby is usually on beer duty and I like to hang out by the table with the sliders. Those are my favorite things about the Super Bowl!"

"The Super Bowl is a big deal in our home as my husband is a die hard Jets fan. Whether hosting a watch party or attending one, we have one tradition we always follow. This is a tradition my husband created and calls ‘Super Bowl Nachos.’ First step, make sure you have your Jets jersey on. Second step, make Super Bowl nachos. Third step, enjoy while watching the game. Now, I can't give out the full recipe, but I can tell you what is in it. Nacho chips, ground meat, fiesta cheese, and queso. We usually make a large tray, and it is gone before halftime. If the DeMartines are at the Super Bowl party, you bet Super Bowl Nachos will be there!"

"When we were younger, we really weren't into sports, so we would make the night all about food, drinks, watching the game, but also staying up until the wee morning hours, especially while stationed overseas. Now, as the years have gone by, we’ve started watching more football, especially now that we’re back home in Wisconsin. Our team is the Green Bay Packers. The game is usually on in the background while we catch the commercials. But my husband and I still stick to our tradition: sitting at the kitchen table, listening to the game, and building Legos. For us, it’s just another day. We’ve never been big on drinking or cooking huge meals. I guess as we’ve gotten older, we’ve become a little less exciting, settling into our own quieter routines. If the Packers are in the game, we’ll watch for sure. We might head to a local bar to catch part of it, but honestly, we both prefer to stay home."
Sarah Lynn, Retired Army spouse, Wisconsin
